Nuno Borges Carvalho (S’97–M’00–SM’05-F’15) was born in Luanda, Angola, in 1972. He received the Diploma and Doctoral degrees in electronics and telecommunications engineering from the University of Aveiro, Aveiro, Portugal, in 1995 and 2000, respectively. He is currently a Full Professor and a Senior Research Scientist with the Institute of Telecommunications, University of Aveiro. He coauthored Intermodulation in Microwave and Wireless Circuits (Artech House, 2003). He has been a reviewer and author of over 100 papers in peer-reviewed journals and conference proceedings. He is associate editor of the IEEE Transactions on Microwave Theory and Techniques, IEEE Microwave Magazine and Cambridge Wireless Power Transfer Journal. He is the co-inventor of four

Advancing RFID Localization and Measurement for the Intelligent Systems of Tomorrow Alice Buffi is an Associate Professor at the University of Pisa and a Senior Member of IEEE, internationallyrecognized for her contributions to RFID-based localization, measurement, and applied electromagnetics. Her research pioneers advanced measurement methods to detect and localize static and moving objects,agents, and people through ultra-high-frequency (UHF) RFID systems. By bridging electromagnetics, sensingtechnologies, and intelligent data processing, her work enables transformative applications in Industry 4.0and Industry 5.0, safety-critical environments, and smart agriculture.
